When does the 2027 tax card arrive?

By 10.10.2026 the Finnish Tax Administration had not published the exact schedule for the 2027 tax cards. The previous year gives an indication: production of the 2026 tax cards began on 21.11.2025, the first cards arrived in OmaVero on 22.11.2025, and the Finnish Tax Administration announced on 8.12.2025 that everyone's cards were in OmaVero.

The new tax card takes effect at the start of the year. If the new card is not ready in time for the January payroll, the payer uses the card that was valid at the end of the previous year. Once you start using Suomi.fi messages, you will be notified as soon as the new card is ready.

The tax card arriving at the turn of the year is based on the Finnish Tax Administration's information about your previous income and deductions. It therefore does not know if you plan to change jobs, go on parental leave or start a side business in 2027. That is why you should open the new card in OmaVero as soon as it appears and compare its income limit with your own estimate of next year's income.

Electronic or paper tax card

In November 2025 the Finnish Tax Administration announced that 2026 was the last year in which a tax card is also sent on paper to those who use OmaVero. At the same time, official mail is mostly becoming electronic: Parliament approved the changes on 11.3.2026, and the planned date of entry into force was 14.4.2026.

The change applies to adults who use public authorities' electronic services. You can return to paper post by closing your Suomi.fi Messages account. If you do not use electronic services, the tax card will still be sent by post.

Do you have to take the tax card to your employer?

Almost four million people's tax cards are transferred to the payer of income automatically through a software interface. Kela and pension providers receive the cards automatically, but at most pension providers a new pensioner has to submit the card themselves.

Ask your employer how it wants the tax card. If the payer does not receive the information directly from the Finnish Tax Administration, download the card from OmaVero and deliver it yourself before the first payday. Without a tax card the employer must withhold 60% of the pay.

Income limit, tax rate and additional rate

The tax percentage on a tax card is the withholding rate, calculated from your estimated income and deductions. The income limit is an estimate of your income during the validity of the tax card: the payer applies the additional percentage to the part that exceeds it.

The annual income limit of the basic tax card arriving at the turn of the year corresponds to 12.5 months' pay including holiday pay. For example, with a monthly salary of 2,000 euros the income limit is 25,000 euros. If you have several employers, each starts using the additional percentage when the pay it has paid exceeds the annual income limit. A pension income tax card has no income limit.

When a change tax card is worthwhile

It is worth changing the tax card when your income or deductions change clearly. According to the Finnish Tax Administration, for example, these are reasons to order a new card:

  • you start a new job or get a pay rise
  • employment ends or income decreases
  • the income limit is about to be exceeded
  • you get new deductions, such as travel expenses, expenses for earning income or household deduction
  • a previously declared deduction is removed

What to check on a new tax card

When the 2027 tax card appears, go through at least these points. The check takes only a few minutes, but it can avoid both residual tax and an unnecessarily large tax withholding.

  • Does the income limit correspond to the income estimated for the whole year, including holiday bonuses?
  • Do you have more than one income payer? Then the pay from a single job alone does not tell you whether the income limit is enough.
  • Are deductions, such as travel expenses, still up to date?
  • Does the payer receive the tax card automatically, or must you deliver it yourself?

How to change the tax card in OmaVero

The tax card is changed in OmaVero, and it can be changed as many times as necessary. The percentage alone cannot be reduced; instead, the income and deduction details are updated and the percentage is calculated from them. A percentage that is too low leads to residual tax, one that is too high to a tax refund.

The new card is valid for the whole year or until you order the next one. A change-of-tax-rate card is usually not needed for unemployment fund membership fees. If you want to see how the tax percentage affects your take-home pay, Money Radar's calculators can help you make a monthly budget.
